Bangladesh Bank has said that the country’s banking sector has returned to a positive trend in foreign exchange management. The central bank’s latest report shows that there has been a significant recovery in both Net Open Position (NOP) and market foreign exchange liquidity.

According to the report, the banking sector’s NOP stood at US$ 1,080.70 million as of April 2, 2026. At the same time, Net FX Holding or market liquidity has stabilized at US$ 3.39 billion.

Data analysis shows that NOP has been consistently strong in the last three years. While this position was only US$ 107.03 million in June 2023, it increased to US$ 272.70 million in June 2024. After reaching a high of US$ 1,116.70 million in June 2025, it temporarily decreased to US$ 602.71 million in February 2026. However, this indicator has made a strong comeback recently.

On the other hand, the foreign exchange liquidity in the market is also indicating stability. It increased from $3.40 billion in June 2023 to $3.89 billion in 2024. It decreased slightly to $3.50 billion in 2025, but fell to $2.30 billion in February 2026. The latest data shows that the sector has turned around and stabilized at $3.39 billion.

According to the central bank, this recovery is a reflection of the banks’ increased ability to manage foreign exchange risk. After overcoming temporary pressure, the sector is now moving towards stability, which carries a positive message for the country’s overall financial system.
