Bangladesh’s net foreign direct investment (FDI) rebounded strongly in 2025, increasing by 39.36% year-on-year, driven mainly by higher reinvested earnings and a sharp rise in intra-company loans, according to the latest Bangladesh Bank (BB) report published on 5 May.
The report showed that net FDI reached nearly $1.77 billion in 2025, compared to $1.27 billion in 2024.
Bangladesh Bank data revealed that total FDI inflows stood at $4.69 billion during the year, while outflows amounted to $2.92 billion.
The central bank noted that although FDI inflows had declined over the previous three years, investment rebounded in 2025 despite earlier political instability that slowed inflows during the middle two quarters of 2024.
According to the report, growth in fresh equity investment remained relatively sluggish. However, higher reinvested earnings alongside increased intra-company loan flows played a key role in boosting overall net FDI.
Net FDI measures the difference between total foreign investment entering a country and the investment leaving it over a specific period.
Bangladesh Bank also highlighted that foreign direct investment continues to contribute significantly to the country’s economic development.
