Gold prices have increased once again in Bangladesh’s local market, with the new rates coming into effect from 10am on Thursday.

The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) revised the prices of gold and silver jewellery following an increase in the local prices of acid-treated, or refined, gold and silver.

According to a notice signed by Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shaheen, chairman of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, the new rates have been effective from Thursday morning.

Under the revised rates, 22-carat cadmium gold jewellery is being sold at Tk20,630 per gram, including VAT. Based on the standard weight of one bhori (11.664 grams), the price comes to approximately Tk240,630 per bhori.

The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk19,700 per gram, or approximately Tk229,600 per bhori.

Meanwhile, 18-carat gold is priced at Tk16,920 per gram, equivalent to approximately Tk197,400 per bhori.

Gold jewellery produced under the traditional method has been priced at Tk13,820 per gram, or approximately Tk161,230 per bhori, including VAT.

BAJUS has also revised silver prices. The new rate for 22-carat cadmium silver jewellery is Tk455 per gram, while 21-carat silver costs Tk435 per gram and 18-carat silver Tk375 per gram. Silver jewellery produced under the traditional method is priced at Tk285 per gram.

BAJUS said jewellers may charge making or labour costs separately, depending on the design and workmanship of the jewellery. However, since VAT is already included in the revised prices, jewellers cannot charge customers an additional VAT separately.
