In a landmark transformation within Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry, Novartis (Bangladesh) Limited has officially become Nevian Lifescience PLC, following the majority acquisition by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. This strategic move not only reshapes the local pharmaceutical landscape but also sets a precedent for how global legacies can evolve through local stewardship.

The Acquisition and Transition

After decades under the Swiss multinational Novartis AG, the Bangladesh operation has entered a new era under the ownership of Radiant Pharmaceuticals. The acquisition includes all key operations, employees, and product rights in Bangladesh.

Despite the ownership change, Nevian Lifescience continues to manufacture and distribute world-renowned Novartis brands under a global licensing agreement. This ensures uninterrupted supply, consistent quality, and compliance with international production standards.

Nevian Lifescience has emphasized that no changes have been made to the production infrastructure, quality control mechanisms, or human resources. All existing employees, manufacturing facilities, and SOPs remain intact.

The commitment to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), WHO standards, and international regulatory frameworks has been reaffirmed. This continuity is vital not only for maintaining trust among healthcare professionals and consumers but also for regulatory approvals in export markets.

Expansion of Global Footprint

Musawath Shams Zahedee, a dynamic leader with experience in both local and multinational pharmaceutical environments, has taken over as the Managing Director of Nevian Lifescience PLC. His leadership is expected to drive the company through a phase of technological innovation, R&D investments, and market diversification.

Importantly, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) retains its stake in the company, offering confidence to stakeholders and regulators that public interest will continue to be safeguarded.

A Legacy Worth Preserving

The journey started over five decades ago, in 1973, when the company began operations as Ciba-Geigy (Bangladesh) Limited. Through the years, it evolved into Novartis (Bangladesh) and became a symbol of innovation, research-driven healthcare, and global-standard production.

With Novartis AG’s decision to streamline its operations and divest from smaller global markets, Radiant’s acquisition ensures that this rich legacy remains rooted in Bangladesh.
